After you try our chocolate chip skillet cookie and fudge Oreo ice cream cake, bananas foster is the next on the list of delicious DIY desserts perfected with Almost Heaven's homemade ice cream. With only 15 minutes to make, this recipe is a quick and easy way to enjoy a hot and cold treat.

Bananas Foster is a classic dish with sliced bananas and nuts swimming in a rich caramel sauce. Though it's typically served over vanilla ice cream to create a delicious hot and cold effect, give Almost Heaven’s homemade Butter Pecan or Salty Caramel flavors a try instead! For a dish, the whole family can enjoy, use vanilla and rum extracts, or you can stick to the original helping of your favorite rum.

Prep: 10 min Cook: 5 min Total: 15 min Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick salted butter

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

  • 2 teaspoons rum extract

  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract

  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

  • 2 bananas, peeled and sliced

  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans

  • 1 quart of Almost Heaven Butter Pecan or Salty Caramel

Note: If you would like to make a more classic dish, add ½ cup rum instead of the vanilla and rum extracts.

Directions:

  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar, rum extract, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Stir and let the mixture simmer for a few minutes.

  2. Add bananas and your nuts of choice and mix them into the sauce. If using rum, add now. Let cook until heated through for 2-3 minutes.

  3. Pour each serving over a scoop of Almost Heaven Butter Pecan ice cream and serve immediately.

Prep: 15 min

Cook: 20 min

Freeze: 2 ½ hr

Total: 2 hr 45 min

Yield: Two 6-in cakes

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of chocolate fudge cake mix

  • ½ cup butter, melted

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 can (16 oz) hot fudge topping, warmed

  • 2 cups crushed Oreo cookies

  • 2 quarts Almost Heaven homemade Oreo ice cream, softened for 15 to 20 min

Note: Adjust butter as needed; you will need the same amount as the vegetable oil or similar ingredient required for the cake mix. The water is removed entirely to make the batter thicker.

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease two 6-inch pans.

  2. In a large bowl, mix cake mix, butter, and eggs until blended (batter will be very thick).

  3. Divide and scrape the batter into the two pans and smooth it to the edges.

  4. Bake for 18 to 21 minutes or until the surface appears dry and is no longer shiny. Cool completely in the pans for about 1 hour.

  5. Spread 8 oz of the warmed fudge over the cake and sprinkle with ½ cup of Oreos. Repeat with the second cake.

  6. Spread a quart of Almost Heaven Oreo ice cream in a new 6-inch pan. Repeat with the second quart.

  7. Freeze both of the cake and ice cream pans until firm, about 30 minutes.

  8. Remove cake from the pan and place on a portable plate. Flip ice cream from the pan onto the top of the cake.

  9. Add hot fudge to the edges and decorate with whipped cream or frosting. Sprinkle top with ½ cup of Oreos. Repeat with the second cake.

  10. Cover and freeze until firm, about 2 hours, or serve immediately. Best served after letting cake stand for 15 to 20 minutes.
